We’re here to provide the care you need once you’re approved for NDIS, ensuring you or your loved one receives the right assistance.

What is NDIS?

The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) is a support programme from the Australian government. It offers financial assistance to people with a permanent disability, helping them live a normal and fulfilling life.

While many people are eligible to access this assistance, the process of applying can be complex. If you’re already approved, Beacon Support is here for you.

As an approved NDIS provider, our services include domiciliary care and specialist palliative care for conditions like cystic fibrosis and motor neurone disease (MND), ensuring you make the most of your NDIS plan.

Let us help you make the most of your NDIS plan and access the support you need.

NDIS Eligibility

How to Know If You or Your Loved One is NDIS Eligible

Disability Requirements for NDIS

If you or a loved one has a permanent disability that requires ongoing support, you may be eligible for the NDIS.

Note: Temporary injuries or illnesses are not covered.

Here are the key requirements:

  • Type of Impairment: The disability must result from an intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, psychosocial, or physical impairment.
  • Permanence: The disability must be permanent.
  • Impact on Daily Life: The impairment must significantly reduce your ability to do daily activities like moving, communicating, socialising, learning, self-care, or self-management.
  • Life Impact: The impairment must affect your work, study, and relationships.
  • Long-term Support: You likely need support from the NDIS your entire life.

These questions can summarise these requirements:

  • Do you frequently require assistance from another person or equipment to perform daily tasks due to a permanent impairment or condition?
  • Do you usually need support from a person or assistive equipment to:
    • Understand and be understood by others?
    • Make and keep friends, as well as deal with feelings and emotions?
    • Understand, remember and learn new things?
    • Get out of bed, move around the house and go outside?
    • Take a bath or shower, dress and eat?
    • Do daily tasks, manage money and make decisions?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be eligible.

Age Requirements for NDIS

Age Range: You must be 65 years old or younger to apply.

Children Under 7: Families with children under 7 should talk to an early childhood partner before applying to determine if the NDIS is right for their child.

Residency Requirements for NDIS

To be eligible for the NDIS, you must also meet certain residency requirements:

Citizenship: You must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident.

Visa Status: If you are not an Australian citizen, you must have a permanent visa or a protected special category visa (for some New Zealand citizens).

When you apply, you'll need to provide the details about:

  • Your residence
  • Family’s residence
  • Employment in Australia
  • Property in Australia
  • Time spent outside the country

If you spend a lot of time overseas, you'll need to demonstrate a stronger connection to Australia than other countries.
