The Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CPT) in Australia covers claims for compensation against a driver that injures another in a motor vehicle accident.
Recent legislation changes are designed to ensure the availability of Government funded home care services for those injured in this type of accident.
Now those who sustain catastrophic, or disabling injuries in motor vehicle accidents fall under the Lifetime Support Scheme. This is a no-fault scheme managed by the Lifetime Support Authority. According to the new legislation the Lifetime Support Scheme will cover the following services for the duration of the injured person’s life:
- Treatment
- Disability care
- Rehabilitation
- Aids and appliances
- Motor vehicle modifications.
Claims for any additional compensation will be the responsibility of the driver or their insurer.
